Edit a transaction

Correct a transaction's type and treatment, and undo it if you need to.

Edit a transaction: Correct a transaction's type and treatment, and undo it if you need to.

Key points

  • A transaction's type says why it happened, and that decides its tax treatment.
  • A staking reward imported as a deposit should be set to Staking income, which South Africa taxes as income at market value.
  • Add a note explaining each correction; it stays with the transaction.
  • History lists every change, and Rollback to Original undoes them without re-importing the source.
  • Corrections are logged, and the Audit Report can include the audit log showing what you reviewed and why.

Imported a transaction that is not what it looks like? Here is how to correct it, and how to undo it.

In the Transactions ledger, open the transaction you want to correct. This small deposit arrived on the 27th, like every staking reward. Transaction details has five tabs: info, notes, edit, tax and history.

Edit shows every field Coinfig imported, from the date to each leg of the trade and its fee. Type says why it happened, and that decides the tax treatment. It was a staking reward, not a deposit, so choose Staking income. Tax treatment now offers the income options. Leave the default to follow South African treatment, which is taxable income at market value. Add a note to record why. It stays with the transaction. Save changes. The row now reads Staking income, with an edited mark.

Coinfig recalculates your figures straight away. History lists every change. Rollback to Original undoes them all.

Open the transaction. Correct the type. Save, and check the history.
